Apparel and electronics helped lift retail sales 3.8 percent last week, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs chain store sales index.


While the year-on-year increase was up from the 3.2 percent gain registered in the prior week, which ended Aug. 9, the sequential results continued to be weak. Sales were 1.3 percent below those of the prior week, which in turn were 1.4 percent lower than the week ended Aug. 2.
