NEW YORK - J. Crew Group Inc. debuts its first Madewell shop today, which is opening at NorthPark Center in Dallas.

The new brand is priced lower than J. Crew and inspired by the former New Bedford, Mass. workwear company founded in 1937. Madewell is a collection of casual women’s clothes that have a modern upbeat attitude, vintage details, and is a bit edgier than J. Crew. The assortment includes tees, jeans, fleeces, shirts and accessories and are geared to twenty and thirty somethings.

The next Madewell store will open Sept. 2 in the Century City mall in Los Angeles.
