LONDON — The Dover Street Market store here marks its 10th anniversary next week, and, to celebrate the milestone, Rei Kawakubo’s retail emporium is staging a series of events and installations and launching a raft of special products, which all made their debut on Monday.

Alongside a space dedicated to Louis Vuitton’s fall collection, which opened on the store’s first floor in August and will remain standing for the entire fall season, there is a Nike Lab space carrying an edited range of sneakers, including the store’s collaboration with the activewear brand on a Blazer Low shoe, done in plain white with a Dover Street Market logo at the heel. There is also a Good Design Shop in the store’s basement, a collaboration between Comme des Garçons and the Japanese homewares firm D & Department, which carries simple and functional stationery and home items. The London Good Design Shop follows the opening of a similar unit in Dover Street Market’s New York store.

Among the special products are souvenir items designed or selected by Kawakubo, such as flip-flops, a check tote bag and mugs, which are all sold in special market stalls in the store. Meanwhile, designers have created special pieces, which include Simone Rocha’s silver, pointed brogues, Phoebe English’s T-shirts, Stella McCartney Kids’ limited-edition T-shirts and Robert Clergerie shoes with chunky, serrated soles.​

Adrian Joffe, president of Comme des Garçons International, the parent company of Dover Street Market, said he hopes the month of celebrations “encapsulates everything about Dover Street Market — its essence, its spirit, its detail, its abstraction, big famous names [and] small unknown names.”

In that vein, while Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton window designs will be up in the store’s windows from Monday through Sept. 15, they will be followed by a display created by English, a young British designer who previously has created spaces for Dover Street Market in New York. Further, the whole store will be clad in an installation designed by Kawakubo: posters covered with the designer’s quotations plastered on a structure that covers the building.

As to moments that have stood out for Joffe since Dover Street Market London’s launch in 2004, he pointed to earlier this year, when the ICA gallery temporarily took over the store’s Mayfair building, which was the gallery’s original London home. He also singled out when Chanel set up a temporary shop at Dover Street in 2008, to showcase its London-inspired Metiers d’arts Paris-Londres collection, and when milliner Stephen Jones hosted an exhibition of his hats there in 2005, along with “smaller, jewel-like things that have happened over 10 years.”

As for future plans for Dover Street Market, following openings in Tokyo and New York, Joffe said, “We are thinking.”
