DALLAS — Pretty much everything is for sale at TenOverSix in downtown Dallas, from the Alika Cooper works on paper to the confetti curtains shielding the dressing rooms and all the fashion in between.
The 564-square-foot store, which opened earlier this month, brings the Los Angeles’ boutique’s breezy fashion, jewelry and shoes to Big D as part of a $78 million renovation and expansion of the Joule hotel. The all-white store has an L.A. aesthetic — except for the addition of some fanciful frocks.
“Every time we come to Dallas we’re going to parties,” said co-owner Kristen Lee. “It’s definitely dressier here and more put together.”
Cocktail shorts and dresses by Jasmin Shokrian and Horses Atelier mingle with easy pieces by Vena Cava, Alistair, Apiece Apart, Calla and Maison Kitsuné in the compact space, which also highlights Wendy Nichol leather bucket bags, Pamela Love and Andra Neen jewelry and shoes by Jenni Kayne and Opening Ceremony.
The women’s store connects to TenOverSix Presents, a lobby gift and sundries shop that’s the same size as the women’s store. It specializes in quirky gifts like Fort Standard brass cage and rope necklaces and Kikkerland’s bear-shaped airplane pillow, with pharmaceutical necessities for hotel guests laid out Damien Hirst-style in a cross-shaped Lucite case.
“Everything is special, like its own little art piece,” said co-owner Brady Cunningham, showing off a crocheted rope wall hanging by Ladies and Gentlemen Studio.
“We’re going to bring more kitchen, home and gift pieces to L.A. because we’ve had so much fun shopping for it for Dallas,” Lee added.
A Traffic Los Angeles women’s store is expected to open within a month at the Joule, following the men’s store that made its debut in March. In addition, a subterranean Espa and a Traffic-operated nook featuring Comme des Garçons Play are due in June. With the expansion, the hotel has entrances on both Main and Commerce Streets like its next-door neighbor, the Neiman Marcus flagship and headquarters.
“Dallas feels like something is really happening now, especially downtown with the new [Klyde Warren] Park, the Perot Museum [of Nature and Science],” Cunningham observed. “My husband [Jason Schwartzman] and two-year-old have spent the last two days at the Perot.”
