Loehmann's will open its first downtown Chicago store at 151 North State Street next month, adding to the discount retail presence on the street, which currently houses Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx and Filene's Basement. Located between the Chicago Theatre and Macy's on State Street, the newly constructed 27,000-square-foot bilevel Loehmann's will possess one of the more upscale interiors of the 61-store chain, with marble floors and private fitting rooms. It will sit below the Joffrey Ballet's new headquarters and across from ABC Channel 7's new studios. New York-based Loehmann's also operates four stores in suburban Chicago, including units in Morton Grove, Northbrook, Oak Brook and Orland Park, Ill. "We're delighted to be in the heart of downtown Chicago's popular business district," said Fred Forcellati, Loehmann's vice president and creative director. "There is great energy and excitement here, and it's exciting to be part of the ongoing revitalization of State Street." The store will feature Loehmann's traditional mix of designer and brand name apparel, handbags, jewelry and accessories. In addition, there will be men's and children's departments and an extensive footwear department carrying some 5,000 pairs of shoes. In other news, Loehmann's has designated today Young Survival Coalition Day at the company's 61 stores. Customers who donate $5 to the organization, which supports women under 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer, will receive 20 percent off their entire purchase. Loehmann's has guaranteed a contribution to the organization; however, the company did not disclose the amount. "Our young contemporary department is an important dimension of our business," said Forcellati, adding, "We chose the Young Survival Coalition as our beneficiary because of their important work with young breast cancer survivors.
