Macy’s has named Ginny Peterson executive vice president and general merchandise manager over juniors, dresses, suits, coats, swim, intimate apparel and children’s, a grouping of categories the retailer designates as “ready-to-wear two.”

Peterson, who was executive vice president and general planning manager for rtw two since May 2009, succeeds Rob Smith, who has left the company.

Peterson will report to Jeff Gennette, chief merchandising officer. Her successor has not yet been named. She started her retail career at Robinson’s in Los Angeles in 1979 as an executive trainee, held various buying and store positions until rising to general merchandise manager for regional divisions, which have since been centralized.
