BEENE RINGS UP $4 MILLION: Sotheby's two-day sale of the collection of Geoffrey Beene last week generated more than $4 million in sales, doubling its projection.

A table by Jean Prouvé with a hefty selling price of $447,200 and a painting by the British Modernist artist Keith Vaughan, which went for $234,000, were the two highest-ticketed items. The latter was a record for the artist at auction. Some of the proceeds from the auction, held Friday and Saturday, will benefit the Geoffrey Beene Foundation.
