NEW YORK -- Raj Joneja has been named a senior vice president and general merchandise manager at Mervyn's, the Hayward, Calif.-based division of Dayton Hudson Corp. He will be responsible for women's sportswear, trend merchandising and product development, a new position. The company had previously split merchandising responsibilities between two senior vice presidents and general merchandise managers -- John Irvin and Alan Jahns.
Joneja takes over women's sportswear from John Irvin, who remains in charge of footwear, accessories, jewelry and intimate apparel. Alan Jahns continues to oversee children's, home and men's. All three report to Paul Sauser, president and chief operating officer of Mervyn's.
Joneja most recently was corporate vice president of merchandising for Amcena Corp. in New York, a specialty store retailer that includes Miller's Outpost and Steinbach's.
He joined Dayton's Department Stores as a trainee in 1973. In April, 1984, he was named chief executive officer of Diamonds, a former Dayton Hudson division. After Dayton's sold Diamonds in 1984, Joneja joined Mervyn's as executive vice president. He subsequently was named president of Dayton's Department Store division.
