MONTREAL — About 600 unionized workers will be out of work when Golden Brand Clothing (Canada) Ltd. closes its doors this summer.
The Montreal-based apparel maker was acquired by Men’s Wearhouse when the U.S. retailer bought privately held Moores Retail Group Inc. in 1999.
Men’s Wearhouse couldn’t be reached for comment and both Moores and Golden Brand wouldn’t comment until a press release is issued today.
But a UNITE union rep said the decision was prompted by the strength of the Canadian dollar and that it was informed by Men’s Wearhouse that it plans to close up shop in June or July and move production elsewhere.

This season, novelty is back in a way reminiscent of early Aughts, with studs, lace-ups, racing waxed denim and more.
