TAKING CREDIT: Look out, American Express and Visa. Home Shopping Network wants to launch a credit card of its own.
"We are working on a credit card," a HSN spokeswoman confirmed. "It's just another benefit to offer our customers."
QVC, HSN's major rival has its own credit card already.
DANSKIN'S TV SPRINT: With Olympic fever running high, Danskin is talking to QVC, Home Shopping Network and other electronic retailers about airing an infomercial next winter involving Team Danskin -- Katerina Witt and other athletes featured in the company's print ad campaign.
Byron Hero, vice president of Danskin Inc., said the proposal includes personal interviews, athletic demonstrations and informal discussions about training, nutrition, products and preferences, with an 800-number at the bottom of the screen throughout the program.
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ORACLE: Oracle Corp., a developer of database software, is well connected.
The company, which is creating technology to bring interactive services into the home, has been distributing a promotional video featuring Myron Ullman, chairman of R.H. Macy & Co., and Diane Von Furstenberg, who sells her designs on QVC. On the video, Ullman discusses his general interest in home shopping, while Von Furstenberg relates her own experiences on QVC.
"Oracle is an underlying technology that anybody can use," said a source at Oracle, although neither Macy's nor QVC has signed up yet.
"Oracle was allowing visionaries to share the spotlight," a spokesman for Oracle said.
