SEATTLE -- Nike Inc. will open a 24,000-square-foot Nike Town store here in spring 1996 and expects to announce another site in three to four weeks.
Nike is still "actively" looking at sites for a Nike Town in Manhattan, but no lease has been signed yet, a Nike spokesman said Thursday. He would not disclose the location of the store to be announced next month.
Nike is reportedly pursuing the Galeries Lafayette site in the Trump Tower on 57th Street.
In Seattle, Nike will build a two-level unit inside a proposed 65,000-square-foot retail complex on Sixth Avenue and Pike Street, next to the space once occupied by an I. Magnin until it closed last year. The Nike Town store will include a central area to showcase the brand's latest footwear and apparel and provide space for sports clinics and other special events.
The company would not project a volume for the store. Nike, based in Beaverton, Ore., operates four Nike Town stores, in Portland, Ore., Chicago, Newport Beach, Calif., and Atlanta. Nike recently announced plans to open a unit in San Francisco by summer 1996, as part of a strategy to have 10 to 15 stores across the country by the end of the decade.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
