NEW YORK -- Diane Von Furstenberg, who has played an unofficial role in the conceptualization and development of Q2 for almost a year, was named creative planning director of the weekend lifestyle channel to be launched by QVC in May.

In this capacity, Von Furstenberg will report to Q2 president Candice Carpenter. Von Furstenberg, who brought QVC to the attention of Barry Diller -- who subsequently became the company's chairman -- has been instrumental in attracting well-known designers to the network.

She hopes to repeat that success for Q2 and said having a formal title will make approaching designers a little easier. Von Furstenberg said she has spoken with Karl Lagerfeld about a concept that will include ready-to-wear. She has also asked Christian Louboutin, the Paris shoe designer, to develop a special shoe for Q2. She also said she spoke to interior designer Andree Putman about another project, which she declined to divulge. Von Furstenberg, who is in Paris this week for the upcoming collections, said she is interested in landing Italian designers for Q2. She has also been trying to interest Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.

Lauren and Klein have not formally agreed to anything, she said. She said she has not spoken with Donna Karan, but plans to.

In addition to selling her Silk Assets and Casual Chic collections on QVC, Von Furstenberg will produce a weekly show called "On the Go" for Q2. It will offer tips on packing for travel. Bags and organizers designed by Von Furstenberg will be offered for sale. She will also develop products in the home area.
