NEW YORK -- Saks Fifth Avenue is closing its A/X Armani Exchange store in Columbus, Ohio, on June 25, sources said Wednesday.

The 3,100-square-foot store, which was opened in December 1992, was reported to have failed to meet expectations.

The closing would leave Saks with eight freestanding A/X units: three in Chicago, two in Boston, and one each in Atlanta, Cincinnati and Bal Harbour, Fla.

Saks officials could not be reached for comment.
