ATLANTA — Unifi, Inc. has partnered with Burlington Worldwide and United Knitting for the development of woven and knit fabrics using Repreve nylon 6,6, which Unifi will introduce at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.
Repreve nylon is the first recycled nylon 6,6 yarn suitable for apparel applications. Like Unifi’s Repreve polyester, it is made from 100 percent recycled materials and offsets the need to produce virgin nylon (or polyester), thus conserving petroleum-based resources.
Burlington Worldwide, a division of International Textile Group (ITG), will feature the nylon as woven fabrics under its Generations Collection, targeting technical sportswear. United Knitting will introduce Repreve nylon in a series of new eco-friendly knit fabrics for activewear.
Dale Arnold, executive vice-president, ITG, said, “Our partnership with Unifi will allow ITG to offer eco-friendly, high-performance fabrics that exceed our customers’ performance expectations.”
Jerry Miller, president and COO, United Knitting, added that the Repreve nylon will allow his company to further expand its environmental product offering. “United Knitting is committed to growing our line of sustainable products,” he said.
