TOKYO — Uniqlo will open a new men’s area at Selfridges on Feb. 23, according to the London department store and Fast Retailing, which runs the casual brand chain.
The new area will span about 1,000 square feet and be located in the first-floor men’s department. It will stock Uniqlo’s new tailoring range, as well as staples such as cotton and cashmere sweaters in Uniqlo’s signature bright colors.
The space will also showcase a collection called Japanese Denim that features regular and selvedge denim produced in Japan. The collection is the fruit of a collaboration between Uniqlo and Japanese denim manufacturers Kaihara.
“Uniqlo brings the best in contemporary, affordable design and an authoritative voice to the Selfridges brand mix,” said Gary Edgley, senior men’s wear buyer at the store. Simon Coble, Uniqlo U.K.’s chief executive officer, called the new area a “milestone” for the growth and expansion of the brand.
A spokesman for Fast Retailing in Tokyo said Uniqlo’s men’s wear had earned a good reputation in the U.K., where it relaunched in 2007, and the new space at Selfridges would introduce the brand to a different set of customers. The brand already has two freestanding stores on Oxford Street.
“I was touched by the fact that she lost her father, really before his time, and it was a real shock. She had two young children, she was married and she was expecting that she would have her own life for a good 25 years,” said Claire Foy about playing a young Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown. “It transcends the genre that is you think of a sci-fi show — you don’t expect it to be so profound or emotionally riveting,” Evan Rachel Wood told WWD of her Emmy nominated role in Westworld. styled by @samanthamcmillen_stylist 📸 @emmanmontalvan #emmys2017 #wwdeye
