NEW YORK — Vera Wang is adding another level to her expanding ready-to-wear business.
The designer signed a lease Monday for her first freestanding rtw boutique at 158 Mercer Street here. The 2,500-square-foot shop will house both the designer's rtw and contemporary Lavender Label.
The store, which will open next fall, is located across the street from Marc Jacobs and Marni.
Wang already has a bridal boutique at 991 Madison Avenue and a bridesmaid's store at 980 Madison Avenue here.
For spring, Wang repositioned the Lavender Label into a complete contemporary collection, doubling the number of pieces to about 120, including separates. The Lavender line ranges from $350 to $1,000 and is sold in 300 doors worldwide. Wang's rtw Collection retails from $395 to $5,000 and is available in 80 doors.
Wang's high-end bridal, rtw and licensing business generates revenues of $225 million at wholesale.
Last August, Wang signed an exclusive deal with Kohl's Department Stores for a premium fashion and lifestyle collection under the Very Vera label. The offerings, which encompass apparel, home and accessories, will be available at more than 900 Kohl's moderate department stores and at kohls.com beginning in fall 2007.
