CHOPARD TEAMS WITH ZANOTTI: Chopard partnered with footwear designer Giuseppe Zanotti to create a pair of jewel-encrusted stiletto sandals — to be worn on the feet of model Anja Rubik on the red carpet in Cannes on May 19. The jewelry brand’s co-president Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele worked with Zanotti himself to conceptualize the sky-high pink satin heels, comprising rose gold chains, 22 carats of diamonds, 134 carats of rubellites and 199 carats of pink sapphires. (The designer calls them “the most precious shoes ever.”)
There’s also a matching pair of rose gold, pink sapphire and diamond hoop earrings, and both will be auctioned off later that day at amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS gala. “This year, we wished to support the charity through an idea than took shape when I met Giuseppe Zanotti. His talent has inspired a project combining our respective crafts,” said Gruosi-Scheufele.

GILT GOES GAGA: To mark the release of Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated “Born This Way” album on May 23, the lifestyle arm of flash sale site Gilt Groupe is teaming up with Universal Music Group and the singer on a slew of exclusive events. “We are extremely excited to be partnering with Lady Gaga and Universal,” said Gilt Groupe’s chief executive officer, Kevin Ryan. “We have created an innovative online event, running across two of our channels, which will give our members great access to unbelievable experiences and exhilarating style.”
Among the offers available beginning at noon on May 20 on both Gilt.com and its city-centric counterpart, GiltCity.com, are a curated selection of men’s and women’s merchandise by Gaga’s stylist and Mugler fashion director Nicola Formichetti, tickets to the Mugler fall 2011 fashion show in Paris and VIP access to an upcoming Lady Gaga concert in New York City.
SEEING ORANGE: “Ugly Betty” gave Vanessa Williams a crash course in fashion, but her alma mater, Syracuse University, will hand her the 2011 Icon of Style Award at a Thursday night gala. Hosted by the school’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, the event includes a fashion show by seniors. JPMorgan Chase & Co. chief administrative officer Frank Bisignano will pick up the Dean’s Award of Distinction, and Syracuse men’s basketball head coach Jim Boeheim and his wife, Juli, will be on hand to cheer on the honorees.
