Barneys New York toasted the retail availability of Prabal Gurung’s first collection for ICB on Wednesday night with what was meant to be a summer-type affair at the retailer’s Co-op location in Chelsea. There was a taco truck, Mexican beer, cucumber lime Popsicles, a Mia Moretti DJ set and a performance by an in-vogue indie-rock outfit.

The torrential downpour that happened to coincide with the event’s 7 p.m. start time didn’t exactly match the vibe.

Cohosted by the bloggers Elin Kling, Leandra Medine and socialite Hannah Bronfman, the party attracted the likes of Hanne Gaby Odiele, Taylor Schilling, Elettra Wiedemann, Cory Kennedy and Monique Pean, a handful of whom sported the collection’s bright wares.

Of course Gurung, perpetual engine of unchecked optimism in a V-neck T that he is, wasn’t too bothered by the weather.

“And about this rain…” the designer said, greeting guests from the stage.

“Tonight is all about celebration, love, support and everything, talking about love, I’m so excited to share with you my love for this new band…this band…my newly discovered band, Tanlines,” Gurung added, introducing the quirkily named duo.
