Platform stilettos and French frocks are not a typical California beach uniform, but they may become a more frequent sighting thanks to the opening of Louis Vuitton’s new boutique in Santa Monica Place, which the brand celebrated with a blow out bash Thursday night.

The fete, co-hosted by Eva Amurri, Gabrielle Reece, Maria Bell and Rachel Zoe drew a gaggle of well-heeled women, including Julia Jones, Kristen Bell, Cheryl Tiegs, Molly Sims, Roxane Mesquida, Serena Williams and Dita Von Teese to the oceanside mall, an almost unheard of commute for those on the Beverly Hills and Hollywood party circuit.
“There are never parties out this way,” Sims said.
“Well for me at least, this was closer,” said Malibu dweller Reece, whose pet charity, Heal the Bay, benefitted from the evening. After sipping Champagne, guests received monogrammed patent leather bracelets and headed to the after-party, a few blocks up the coast at the Annenberg Beach House, built on the site of the former mansion of William Randolph Hearst’s mistress, Marion Davies.
What remained of the white Georgian revival estate was converted into a LV trunk-filled salon, where singing duo JohnnySwim (husband and wife Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez) crooned and partygoers noshed on lobster tails and crab claws.
But the biggest draw was the Pacific Ocean, which beckoned guests onto the balcony or into the courtyard to take in the moonlit waves. Even Von Teese, in a full length gown, ventured outside, saying, “It’s such an elegant setting, and even though we are at the beach, I believe in dressing for the occasion.”
