As an Indian-summer sun shone over Paris’ Left Bank, a laid-back urban mood hit the streets around Saint Germain. Here, where fashion’s sway is greatest, one might see weather-ignoring, edgy getups like shorts worn with great Indian boots and a vest or the most elegant dresses and cashmere wraps.

Fashionistas and working girls shopped around Le Bon Marché department store carrying a multitude of classic bags — Hermès’ Kelly and quilted Chanel are favorites, along with Seventies-style, sometimes oversize satchels with a chic-yet-comfy attitude. Jeans and black touches are a leitmotif, worn with wrapped volume, scarfs and cardigans, many energized with a dash of color or a bold print.
