Flynn McGarry, the 15-year-old chef who was the subject of a recent cover story in the Sunday New York Times Magazine, was in New York Thursday night.
He flew from Los Angeles a few days earlier to work alongside Ari Taymor, the chef and owner of the celebrated California restaurant Alma, to cook a dinner organized by Details magazine at The Kitchen At Old Bowery Station. McGarry appeared unaffected by his sudden fame.
“I go into the kitchen and they treat me like all the other cooks, and that’s definitely been helpful for keeping a level head and not being so consumed by the attention,” he said.
The chefs prepared a six-course meal that featured pastured veal roasted in salted butter for a crowd heavy on designers, including Michael Bastian, Phillip Lim, Richard Chai, Patrik Ervell, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow.
