DARK STAR: “In another life I think I was Italian. It suits me here as everyone wears black,” said the rising 26-year-old American songstress Diane Birch, who made her European debut Friday night at the invitation of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
She performed at D&G’s headquarters, converted into a pop-up club for the night. “I was actually wearing a yellow dress until five minutes before the show, but black is my comfort blanket. I’m a Goth at heart,” she explained after her performance, referring to her head-to toe pre-fall D&G look.
The doe-eyed Birch – incidentally, the second daughter of a preacher man to grace the stage for D&G after Katy Perry – belted out tracks from her first album “Bible Belt,” that hit the U.S. charts last year and is set for European release on April 17. As part of her European tour, Birch will next hit Paris, London and Amsterdam.
