There’s usually restaurant turnover in the Hamptons from year to year, and this season is no different. Wei Fun in East Hampton has been replaced by the sleek The Grill on Pantigo. The Boathouse restaurant opened where Bostwick’s used to be, on the second floor of Harbor Marina, overlooking Three Mile Harbor. The restaurant, owned by Michael Gluckman of The Lodge Bar & Grill and Bamboo Sushi Lounge, has a menu that’s “perfect for romantic sunset dinners, delightful lunches or a casual afternoon picnic,” the restaurant said. Diners can also pull their boats up to The Boathouse’s dock and staff will serve them. A new barbecue restaurant in Montauk, When Pigs Fly, features a litany of fried and barbecued foods from chicken to ribs.
Also, Hamponites could get a high-end dose of culinary delights — Laurent Tourondel, star chef of BLT Market in Manhattan, is in negotiations to take over the space that housed Grappa on Main Street in Sag Harbor. The restaurant has its own bit of notorious history, since it’s owned by Eddie Burke Jr., the attorney who defended Lizzie Grubman after her infamous Hamptons car crash. For a rowdier scene there’s the summer Saturday brunch party at Three Mile Harbor courtesy of Derek and Daniel Koch, the brothers behind Merkato 55. One long-time resident commenting on the restaurant scene, said, “In the Hamptons, you get a lot of different restaurants, but most of the food is mediocre.” This, he explained, is because “a lot of people just come out on weekends.” However, there’s always perennial East Hampton favorites Nick & Toni’s on Main Street and Della Femina’s on North Main Street.
