With the 2014 baseball season kicking off this week, Tommy Bahama has released a new Collector’s Edition shirt featuring former great Jackie Robinson. The shirt was introduced today in time for Jackie Robinson Day, which is April 15, the date Robinson first played for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and now commemorated throughout the league.
“Tommy Bahama is proud of our continuing work with Major League Baseball in honoring the baseball legends of our time,” said Terry Pillow, chief executive officer of Tommy Bahama.
“Jackie Robinson was not only one of the most influential players to have ever impacted our great game, but was an iconic American who left a lasting legacy within our history,” said Howard Smith, senior vice president of licensing for MLB. “Through working with the Robinson family, we are proud to give our fans the opportunity to recognize this great player in a truly unique fashion that only Tommy Bahama could provide.”
The shirt features hand-painted artwork that wraps around the entire shirt and includes a vintage photo of Robinson in a classic Dodgers uniform. Robinson’s number, 42, which has been retired throughout the league, is embroidered on the right sleeve and front along with his signature. A Tommy Bahama logo is on the back of the shirt, which also features his highlights of his career. Each shirt is merchandised in a custom-designed garment bag printed with one of Robinson’s quotes, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”
The shirts will be limited in number, numbered and will retail for $250. They will be available at Tommy Bahama stores and online.
