Zac Posen has a new role in the kitchen of The Standard Plaza. Chef Nina Clemente recently took over the menu at the downtown restaurant, and while chefwear isn’t known to be particularly fashionable, she turned to her longtime friend to give her uniform a sartorial boost.
“My childhood friend Zac Posen designed my chef jacket. I wanted something fun, with a pop of color — and he knew exactly what to do,” Clemente said of the custom design. “The indigo and coral reminds me of my summers on the Amalfi Coast, from which I also drew inspiration for my menu.”
Clemente’s menu features simple Italian and Californian dishes, including oil-poached albacore tuna, wild striped bass crudo and pizzas cooked in a wood-burning oven. The open-air venue has undergone a redesign, as well, referencing the Mediterranean cuisine through parasols, wood accents and lemon and olive trees in terra-cotta planters.
Posen joined the chef last night to celebrate the restaurant’s official opening. “So proud of my longtime friend(since 87)”, he wrote in an Instagram post.
