Fendi took do-it-yourself to the next level last week, with a party at its boutique to benefit the New Museum. The company asked Marjorie Raein, Rena Sindi and Patricia Field, among others, to participate in their very own (and very expensive) art project: personalizing a Chef bag, which run from $625 to $1,100.

Tiffany Dubin bought colored pasta at a corner deli on 60th Street and sewed it on the inside. (She wore her Chef inside/out.) Helen Schifter “borrowed” charms from her daughter’s backpack. Sasha Lazard cheated — there’s one in every class — and asked her cobbler to attach a piece of jewelry she’d purchased at the London Terrace “garage” sale. The overachieving Sally Albermarle said she “went a little crazy one night” and Velcroed tea bags all over hers. The souped-up accessory, however, isn’t for every day. “I can’t wear it in the rain because then the streets of New York will be filled with tea,” Albermarle said.

But Chloë Sevigny carried her Chef plain. Did the dog eat her homework? No, she said. No one had told her about the assignment. She held her head high, regardless. “Isn’t it personalization enough that I’m wearing one?” Sevigny asked.

Talk turned to epidurals, diapers, Baby Bjorns and onesies at a baby shower for Liz Cohen a few nights later. But the shindig, thrown by Cohen’s sister, Laurie Prince, and Ana Abdul at Abdul’s TriBeCa loft, was hardly your typical prenatal affair, and not only because there were plenty of guys on hand.

“This is more like a party,” said Fernanda Niven. The dining room table was scattered with Barbie dolls, the wine flowed and the music was loud enough to wake the neighbors. But then, Cohen is known for her party-girl spirit.

“For Liz, we knew it had to be different,” said Abdul.
