It doesn’t take much to transform from a striking starlet into a beautiful blood-thirsty assassin and vice versa.
See, for example, Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox and Daryl Hannah, who all play lady killers in Quentin Tarantino’s stylish fourth flick, “Kill Bill Vol. 1,” and who dressed in their Monday best for its premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The evening also brought out Sheryl Crow, Anthony Kiedis, Pierce Brosnan and David Carradine, who, in a nod to his “Kung Fu” past, plays the eponymous Bill in the movie, and brought along his niece, actress Ever Carradine. Tarantino’s leading ladies arrived sans samurai swords and sweat, but lethal in style. Liu, who wears kimonos for much of the movie, chose Oscar de la Renta. Thurman also forewent her character’s ninja wear — a yellow and black tracksuit, à la Bruce Lee — in favor of a silver laced minidress by Luisa Beccaria.
Hannah, whose character sports a kicking martial arts outfit consisting of a Balenciaga jacket, laced-up Alexander McQueen pants, and a black eye patch, arrived in a scarlet chiffon Christian Dior dress, dramatic Christian Louboutin pumps and devilish red eyeliner. Slithering behind her was the sexy and sleek Fox, in a dangerously plunging Elie Saab gown.
As seems to be the custom these days, the whole vixen thing turned into casual chic for the after party at the Hollywood Athletic Club, as Thurman and Hannah traded dresses for pants and loosened up with Tarantino, Adam Sandler and Kevin Smith. But somehow, they still managed to look drop-dead glamorous.
