From wedges and espadrilles to bejeweled thong sandals, fashionable summer footwear options are virtually boundless. But at a series of recent outdoor events, celebrities and civilians alike have been unwilling to part with their urban shoe collections in even the most bucolic of settings. Kerry Washington tackled Super Saturday 12’s fields in spindly brown stilettos, while Lisa Anastos chose vertiginous, strappy platforms for Water Mill’s gravel terrain. And a particularly intrepid reveler donned Yves Saint Laurent’s wire caged booties for a Governors Island polo match. Aesthetic dissonance aside (the Hamptons don’t exactly scream bondage), grass sunken heels and sprained ankles are a high sartorial price to pay. If you’re on vacation, shouldn’t your feet be, too?
