The Hollywood crowd said bye-bye to black when Emanuel Ungaro’s Peter Dundas touched down to present his colorful spring collection at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills. “Bring it on,” said Kristen Bell, dressed in head-to-toe red. “The only problem with this look is that I don’t have enough room in my purse,” though she quickly discovered she could slip her lip gloss into the pockets of her studded shift. Actress Melissa George was also delighted to discover the strapless metallic dress had pockets. “Almost everything I make has them,” Dundas told her.
The designer, who was surrounded by a swirl of pretty, petite starlets like Kate Mara and Emilie de Ravin, added, “I’ve met a lot of people on this trip, but meeting them made me a lot more nervous for the show — wondering what they were thinking and if they liked it.”
Raquel Welch sure did — she cornered the designer for a 15-minute tête-à-tête at the Bar Marmont after party. Marley Shelton, who also wore Ungaro to her “Grindhouse” premiere the night before, cooed, “I’m a huge fan. He does that floaty glamour thing so well, and you feel as tall and gorgeous as Nicole Kidman in those dresses.” Mara was among those who popped into the after party but bowed out early, saying, “I’m an 84-year-old woman stuck in a 24-year-old’s body. I love to sleep.” She must be the only one, as Dundas and latecomers Dave Navarro, Michele Hicks and Becki Newton were still going strong at midnight.
In New York, Damian Loeb, Hedi Slimane and enough hipsters to fill up an entire L train hit the Box on Monday night for a party celebrating V Man’s spring issue. The evening’s main event was a performance by a rock band called Bloody Social, which is fronted by Sienna Miller’s squeeze du jour, Jamie Burke, who models for the party’s sponsor, Calvin Klein Jeans. “There was such hype on the band I thought, I’ve got to hear him. Let’s have him at our party,” said Stephen Gan, the magazine’s editor. His partner, Cecilia Dean, the co-founder of Visionaire, put the reasons for staging Burke’s show a little differently. “He’s a really good-looking model,” she laughed. “And we support really good-looking models in all of their endeavors.”
