GAME OVER: Art and fashion folk couldn’t be kept away from the red ping pong tables surrounding the new Jean Nouvel pavilion that was unveiled at the annual Serpentine Gallery summer party in London Thursday night.

Guests including Grace Jones, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Lily Cole, Tracey Emin, Nicky Haslam, Zaha Hadid, Matthew Williamson, Poppy Delevigne, Alice Temperley and Matthew Williamson turned out to admire the vast geometric structure made of red, lightweight glass with a 40-foot high freestanding wall built at one end. “The pavilion is little sleazy, in a red-light district sort of way. But I love it – it’s gorgeous,” said London gallerist Kenny Schachter.
Partygoers sipped Champagne as they mingled on the metallic floor of the pavilion, which also houses Christian Boltanski’s installation, “Heartbeat,” and red chess sets atop a row of tables. Naturally the coversation turned to games and some designers clearly have a competitve streak. “I can beat my husband, I’m great at chess,” boasted Temperley. “ I play to win.”
Not everyone appreciated the highbrow happenings taking place at the gallery, however. “We don’t care about none of this art sh–. Let’s get into something a little bonkers,” said British rapper Dizzee Rascal, who took to the stage to perform tracks from his latest album.
