IN THE CLUB: “It was like a terrible little dump before,” host Daniel Benedict joked on Wednesday night at the newly minted Bleecker Street Arts Club. Guests had gathered there to fete the opening of the gallery, which Benedict, along with Stephen Werther, founded. “It’s funny,” Benedict continued as guests swilled their summery provisions during cocktails. “I have all these fancy friends who live around the corner and they’re like, ‘you know there used to be a massage parlor in there!’”
Benedict had gathered a bevy of his fanciest friends for the soiree, including Fiona Byrne, Olivia Chantecaille, Gabby Karan De Felice, Jennifer Creel, Olivia Palermo, Anh Duong and, of course, partner Andrew Saffir. The gallery, which showcases both emerging and prominent artists, is touted as an immersive space, encouraging gallery-goers to engage with the artwork. For the opening, the gallery presented Flat Field, an exhibit curated by the Halsey McKay Gallery in East Hampton.
“It looks like a barn in the West Village,” Bob Colacello said, scoping out the space. The gallery is housed in an art deco, turn-of-the-century landmarked building that features original exposed brick wall and farmhouse beamed ceilings.
After the cocktail hour, guests were moved to another room to enjoy a hearty dinner of mac n’ cheese and fried chicken.
