The fangs were out Tuesday in Paris as fashion’s finest gathered at Russian restaurant Raspoutine for a costume party celebrating the publication of Carine Roitfeld’s book “Irreverent.” Uma Thurman, Kanye West and Jessica Biel joined designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Haider Ackermann, Alber Elbaz, Diane von Furstenberg, Rick Owens, Giambattista Valli and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and models Karlie Kloss, Karolina Kurkova, Miranda Kerr and Anja Rubik.
There was more neck biting than backbiting going on, as guests offered their interpretation of the vampire dress code. Arriving with singer Ciara, Riccardo Tisci had fake blood dripping from his mouth, while Olivier Theyskens donned spooky amber-colored contact lenses.
Louis-Marie de Castelbajac sported a deathly halo of white face powder but was sadly lacking bite, having tried — and failed — to glue on some fake choppers.
“I bought this stuff for grandmothers. It was the worst thing in the world,” he grimaced. “It’s pasty and disgusting, so I had to just take them off afterwards.”
Abbey Lee Kershaw fared better with hers.
“You get used to it. I like the way they feel,” she said. The model pulled a set of bloodied rubber vampire teeth from a little black evening purse. “I just couldn’t manage wearing these,” she explained, and offered them to another guest nearby, who politely declined.
In the center of it all was Roitfeld, who whirled around the dance floor to the rousing strains of “Kalinka” — a tribute to her Russian-born father, Jacques.
“I’m not a queen tonight,” she said, pausing for breath. “It’s the others who are magnificent.”
