Even a bout of very un-Los Angeles-like rain didn’t dampen spirits at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund West Coast runway show and tea at Chateau Marmont Tuesday afternoon. Held in the parlor instead of the customary garden (the last fashion show staged in this manner was an Alexander McQueen event that Helmut Newton attended the day before he died there), the Frédéric Fekkai-hosted show drew front-row guests Liz Goldwyn, Eva Mendes, Nicole Richie (sporting a new bob), Perrey Reeves, Abigail Spencer, Lily Collins, Emily Mortimer, Rose McGowan, Michelle Monaghan and the little seen Maria Sharapova. But for this year’s designer nominee — Joseph Altuzarra, Robert Geller, Pamela Love, Prabal Gurung, Billy Reid, Christian Cota, Moss Lipow, Loden Dager, Gregory Parkinson and Eddie Borgo, it was more emotional getting to watch their clothes go down the runway.

“I have to tell myself to stop and enjoy the moment,” said Gurung. “But it was hard for us all not to tear up.”
On top of his preshow jitters, Cota nearly had a heart attack when he saw his Fekkai-styled models wearing aluminum cans in their hair — before realizing they were curlers. But the audience seemed to love the spectacle, including Willow Bay, who said, “You’d have to cut Bob [Iger, her husband] in half to get him in some of those men’s suits, but they would look adorable on my son.”
