Around 9:30 on Monday night, Karen Elson raised some eyebrows when she cozied up to the microphone and started singing her brand of country music for the likes of Carey Mulligan, Mamie Gummer and Zoe Kazan at the Gramercy Park Hotel rooftop. The model-singer was originally scheduled to perform at the Junior Spring Benefit for Lincoln Center Institute, but considering she just threw a party over the weekend in Nashville to celebrate her divorce from Jack White, her attendance came as a surprise to some. She didn’t say much and friends shielded her from the hungry reporters who wanted to know more about the weekend festivities. “I’m doing fine and well, thank you,” Elson whispered into the microphone. “How are you all doing tonight?”
Very well, it seemed. The young, attractive crowd (Valentino was a sponsor and made sure the ladies looked good), which included Olivia Chantecaille, Claiborne Swanson Frank, Jamie Johnson, Hayley Bloomingdale and Annelise Peterson, started the evening with an intimate three-course dinner on the other side of the rooftop. Mulligan got caught up with Kazan and her boyfriend, actor Paul Dano. “I’m in New York right now doing a play and I thought we were going to do ‘Gatsby’ here, but now we’re doing it in Australia in September,” said Mulligan.

“The next big production for me is my wedding,” exclaimed Gummer. “It’s in about a month in the Berkshires.”
And who will be dressing Gummer?
“Actually, my grandmother. I’m wearing her dress.”
