Entertainment Tonight’s post-Emmys bash probably took the prize for most diverse guest list, and most bizarre sights. The cavernous Vibiana, a former cathedral in downtown Los Angeles, held everyone from Susan Sarandon and LL Cool J down to “The Bachelorette” couple Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez and the cast of “Dancing With the Stars.” While there were a few VIP areas, most of the party was democratically spread over the nave and courtyard of the church.
Over by the Mexican buffet, “Dexter” star Julie Benz tried to be polite when a group of men she clearly didn’t know called “Hey Julie, what’s up?” “Um, hey, I’m trying to eat,” she said before turning back to her plate of food.
Most guests either stayed long enough or arrived just in time to catch Cyndi Lauper’s hour-long performance. “I’m a big fan of TV so it’s an honor to be standing up here singing for you,” she told the crowd before starting her set. “Now, I heard Steve Carell was here. Where is he?” While the pop star, clad in black leather and lace and a massive wig of bright red ringlets, gyrated on the altar, Neil Patrick Harris and longtime squeeze David Burtka edged closer to the stage. “I know it’s cheesy,” said one guest, “but all I want to hear is ‘True Colors.’” Lauper obliged, prompting “The Office” star Melora Hardin to sigh, “That was the best show ever.”
