David Lynch’s influence was felt everywhere at Hollywood’s Milk Studios on Wednesday night as the filmmaker unveiled Dom Perignon by David Lynch, a set of limited-edition bottles he designed for the Champagne brand. The invitation read “dress code: dark,” a nod to Lynch’s eccentric sensibilities and, despite it being the first day of summer, guests followed suit. Event organizers made good on their promise of “an experiential evening” featuring a “labyrinth of spaces with the Lynchian touch.” Fog greeted partygoers, who were then asked to sign a large chalkboard. From there, the group entered a dark tunnel lined in multicolored lights, which led to another space filled with art installations complete with lasers and image projections. The final stop was a concert hall.
Lynch made his way through the maze, flanked by a documentary crew and a mob of curious fans. Trancelike music announced his arrival and with that a wall was lifted to reveal the newfangled bottles. Thomas Jane snapped iPhone photos of the display as Lynch made his way to the stage.

“I would like to thank you all for being here tonight,” said the director, who then presented The Kills. “It’s my deep pleasure to introduce one of my all-time favorite bands. Hold onto your Champagne and hold onto your hat [sic].”
The indie rock group — composed of singer Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie Hince — played for nearly 50 minutes, followed by a DJ set from Diplo. Topher Grace, Jessica Szohr, Fran Drescher, Shane West, Marg Helgenberger, Bret Easton Ellis, Zoe Cassavetes, Caroline d’Amore, Natasha Lyonne, Liz Goldwyn and Sky Ferreira were among those who stopped by. Rachael Leigh Cook admitted she was one of the few who might avoid congratulating Lynch: “I have not met him. I’m not sure I want to, so I’m probably in the wrong place. I’m pretty sure I’d say something dumb, but maybe he’d think it was abstract and brilliant.”
