Jenni Kayne Presentation
10:37 a.m. I’m photographing the looks one by one before the presentation begins. As to not dirty the white cyclorama, an assistant is helping the model put her shoes on and off. I witness as the assistant stands up quickly and the back of her head smashes into the model’s nose. A scream is heard and out of my mouth comes, “Dont bleed on the cyc.” The poor girl’s eyes teared up but luckily, no bloody nose. The model shook it off and carried on like a true professional.
Jason Wu Show
12:37 p.m. Leaving the backstage area, I walk the runway out. I’m startled by the voice of God: “Please get off of the runway, we are still rehearsing.” Oops.
12:41 p.m. The selfie stick post on my Facebook has gone viral. Alina Cho say she wants one. She poses for a pic near a prop structure at the show.
12:47 p.m. Group of male shutterbugs gathered are commenting on Maria Sharapova’s long beautiful legs which her short skirt accentuates. I must admit they have a match point.
12:56 p.m. A handler grabs Alicia Keys from her front row seat and brings her to meet Anna Wintour who is sitting with Maria Sharapova. Alicia sits, the three ladies smile and the lightning storm of flashes mean it’s a good shot.
1:38 p.m. I’m sitting on the floor in an aisle shooting the show. Fashion editor Meenal Mistry is in a seat next to me. Jason sends some shirts with big pockets and I say to Meenal, “Headline: Hot Pockets.”
Street style shoot outside the Nonoo fashion show
4:04 p.m. The weather has been gorgeous so far. Fern Mallis is wearing the interesting jewelry that she designs, so I zoom in on that. “Great weather,” she smiles. “Must be the Jewish holidays.” I don’t know what she means but I’ll take it.
Rag & Bone Fashion Show
4:57 p.m. Front row day care: a woman is watching with a baby and a big doll.
Saks Party sponsored by Dior
9:17 p.m. Red carpet… Steven Sadove makes a B-line for me, hand outstretched to shake… Personally welcomes me… I’m feeling kinda famous and I like it…
9:31 p.m. “Its a crazy week for you, huh???” is a comment that comes my way a lot during fashion week. This time it’s from Alexandra Richards. “Yeah,” I say, “but I look forward to it in a sadistic kind of way.” She says, “No, you must mean masochistic.” After Googling the words, I’m very red-faced… Have been using that tagline all week.
10:11 p.m. Host Jessica Biel is ushered into the VIP area. I’m waiting with Billy Farrell of BFANYC photo agency. Her publicist motions to us as if holding an invisible camera as they walk in. Billy says, “It’s O.K., let her get settled first.” Big mistake. Seconds later, a security detail forms a human shield around Jessica. Billy politely argues that we need our shots. It’s a battle of wills, but I’m betting on Billy as he turns to me with a wink and says, “I guess they don’t know what our job is.” After a 10 minute standoff, the Saks PRs come over: “Ohhh… you guys need this?” Snap! Click! Flash! Pow! Amazing photograph.
