From 9 a.m. presentations to 3 a.m. shenanigans at the hottest spots of the season, Steve Eichner, WWD nightlife photographer extraordinaire, sees it all through his viewfinder during fashion week. Follow along this season with his daily diary, Eichner’s Eye.
September 10, 2013
6:43 a.m. Up early to type. Online, I see page one of WWD is my runway photo from Hilfiger show. With a buzz like this, who needs morning coffee?
Tory Burch Runway Show
9:03 a.m. “He’s the master,” Jason Binn exalts, as he photo bombs my shot.
9:07 a.m. Cradling an SLR camera, Emmy Rossum snaps from the front row.
Diesel Black Gold Runway Show
1:01 p.m. Great location: Grand Central Station — easily accessible by all mass transit.
1:22 p.m. Kanye krush! From all directions: South, east and…north, west!
Street Style Shoot
2:06 p.m. “Art is what you can get away with,” a woman’s leg tattoo reads. Her shoes are rad as well.
2:08 p.m. “Pain and Truth,” a man’s face tattoo reads, framed by his Mohawk and leather jacket.
Naeem Khan Runway Show
2:37 p.m. Have not seen this in a while. Naeem ends the show with a traditional wedding gown. Old school!
2:42 p.m. If the dresses are so well made, why are there a thousand beads, feathers and sequins left behind on the runway after the show? Just sayin’.
Marc by Marc Runway Show
4:29 p.m. Snap, snap, snap. “He probably got the best shot of the baby yet, today!” says Robert Duffy as I take a shot of him with his daughter. Departing the show, I receive a text from my office: “Please make sure you get a shot of Robert and Victoria.” Nailed It!
Narciso Rodriquez Runway Show
8:06 p.m. “‘Miser-Alba’ is never nice to me,” says one shooter waiting for Jessica Alba to take her front row seat.
Barneys New York Party
9:44 p.m. Fashion designer couple Lisa Mayock and Jeff Halmos engage me in conversation. “We just moved from Williamsburg to Clinton Hill.” “Oh, Clinton Hill, what part of Manhattan is that?” I inquire. “No, it’s in Brooklyn near Bed-Stuy.”
10:13 p.m. This is cool: An interactive T-shirt, printed with a window shade and a working drawstring. Give it a tug!
10:17 p.m. Too much garlic on the whipped fava bean spread on toast.
11:03 p.m. A surprising lack of smartphone shutterbugs as Lou Doillon performs. She’s that captivating. “Beautiful light,” I think, enjoying her melodic performance.
11:38 p.m. “Don’t look at this!” barefoot lady, relieving her shoe pain, declares. I offer, “Would you like them massaged!?” “Very tempting,” she replies.
