Nearly every top editor, plus a handful of socials, flooded Barneys New York’s first floor Wednesday night to greet Tod’s chairman Diego Della Valle, in town to receive the Brand Visionary award from Fashion Group International Thursday night. “I like this word very much,” Della Valle said as he greeted guests including co-hosts Elizabeth Banks, Amanda Brooks, Celerie Kemble, Jamie Johnson and Lauren Remington Platt. “Everybody tries and wants to be a visionary.”
As for his 19.1 percent stake in that across-town retailer Saks Fifth Avenue, Della Valle wasn’t saying much. “Saks is an incredible, great name,” he told WWD. “It has a good group of managers whom I’ve known for a long time.” Della Valle said he believes the retailer has “incredible potential” and is poised for “an incredible future.” When asked if he expects to buy more stock, he smiled and walked away.
