The Bergdorf Goodman men’s store welcomed back the man who cut the ribbon when it opened more than two decades ago, playing host to former chairman Ira Neimark Wednesday night. Neimark chose the venue to do a signing for his latest book, “The Rise of Fashion and Lessons Learned at Bergdorf Goodman,” his personal recollections of nearly five decades in the apparel industry and 17 at the helm of the luxury retailer.
“As the world goes around, here we are 20 years later,” Neimark said of his visit to the men’s store. “It’s just a wonderful thing.”

The 200-page hardcover book features stories and business perspective, along with more than 150 photos of designers, celebrities and royalty, including Jacqueline Onassis, Giorgio Armani and Princess Diana.
The 90-year-old former retailer signed books for friends and former business associates, including Calvin Klein, Dawn Mello, Fern Mallis, Mark Cohen and Joe Barrato. “He’s forgotten more than most of us will ever know,” said Cohen, a former Sears and Bradlees executive who now teaches at Columbia University’s Business School.
