God’s Love We Deliver, the 25-year old non-profit that provides meals to the sick, held its 4th annual Golden Heart Awards celebration on Monday at the IAC building. Joan Rivers and Viacom head Phillippe Dauman were this year’s honorees and as guests filed into the building, a slideshow projected above them: Rivers in a hairnet preparing food, Anna Wintour (sans hairnet) speaking on behalf of the organization, actress Tamara Tunie delivering meals. Sipping cocktails, event co-chairs Blaine Trump and John Demsey reminisced about their early volunteering days.
“It was 1987. They had me chopping carrots,” said Trump. “But now they’re terrified when they seeing me coming. So, I stay out of the kitchen.”
The meal for guests that evening consisted of braised beef short ribs, though Matthew Modine and Cari Modine requested vegan entrees. “It has nothing, no fat, no butter,” a waiter said as he served them their alternative dinners.
The evening’s auction brought in $275,000, which would have undoubtedly pleased long-time supporter Rivers, who has raised $550,000 for God’s Love from her appearances on “Celebrity Apprentice” and “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?”
Unfortunately, she was unable to accept her award in person. She did, however, send a video, in which she managed to insult Betty White only once.
