PARIS — Kate Winslet jetted into Paris especially for the Lancôme bash Wednesday night to celebrate its Nouvelle Vague project for which three Paris-based designers created couture makeup bags.
It’s remarkable the actress — and Lancôme face — found the time. “I am actually quite busy at the moment because I have the sequel to ‘Divergent’ I am shooting very soon,” she said, sitting in the Palais Brongniart, the former seat of the French Stock Exchange.

“Then at the end of the year I am going to Australia to do a movie called ‘The Dressmaker,’ which is all set in the Fifties and it’s kind of a black comedy,” continued Winslet.
She said her character, the lead in the film directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, is someone who left a small town she grew up in to travel the world.
“The beginning of the movie is when she comes back to the town a changed woman to seek revenge on some people who have accused her of doing something bad when she was young,” said Winslet. “It feels really weird to talk about the character I haven’t played yet, you know.”
That said, she had a clear idea about a new role she would appreciate having in the future. “I’d like to play a man,” said Winslet. “I just think it would be the ultimate challenge.”
Lancôme’s Nouvelle Vague initiative involved designers Simon Porte Jacquemus, Alexandre Vauthier and Yiqing Yin crafting makeup bags to hold a trio of the label’s key products — L’Absolu Rouge lipstick, Hypnôse Star mascara and Hypnôse Palette eye shadow. The one requirement for the creations, which came out in mid-June, was that the iconic Lancôme rose somehow figure into their design.
“Lancôme is a luxury beauty brand, and creativity plays an important role in it,” said Françoise Lehmann, general manager of Lancôme International.
