ON THE WATERFRONT: Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, the designers behind Peter Pilotto, threw open the doors to their sprawling canal-side studio in East London for a dinner hosted by MAC Cosmetics on Wednesday night.
“We moved in last July, and we’ve been trying to do this event since then, but it just felt summer is the perfect time — it’s nice to be here, where we actually work, live and eat,” said De Vos, who shares a home with Pilotto above the studio.
John Demsey, group president of Estée Lauder Cos. Inc., said the celebration was not a foreshadowing of any product collaboration with designers.
“This is one of the few instances we’re doing this just based on our relationship together — there’s nothing commercial about it, it’s just a nice thing to do,” he said. MAC has been providing the makeup for the duo’s shows since the 2008 fall season.
Before dinner, guests gathered at the nearby Towpath Café, on the edge of the Regents Canal, to sip Prosecco spiked with elderflower cordial and graze on crudités.
Later, a crowd that included Anna Friel, Tiphaine de Lussy, Amber Le Bon, Tallulah Harlech and Caroline Winberg — all of whom were clad in the label’s colorful, body-hugging dresses — drifted into the studio space lit by colored fluorescent lights and strings of bare lightbulbs.
The view of the canal had some guests doubting whether they were still in gritty East London.
“I was like, are we in Venice or something?” said Winberg. The Swedish model has recently moved back to London from New York, after shooting the reality modeling show “The Face” here last year with Naomi Campbell.
“It’s a lot more calm here than in New York. Maybe I’ve just become boring, but no one in New York wanted to have dinner with me at 7 p.m.,” she sighed.
