The 89th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade kicked off the holiday season in New York. Winding its way through 2.5 miles of the city’s streets ending at Macy’s Herald Square, the tradition showcased hundreds of floats, giant balloons, marching bands and performers. From Hello Kitty to Snoopy to SpongeBob Squarepants, balloons can reach up to five stories in height. Balloons making parade debuts were Scrat from “Ice Age” and Red from “Angry Birds.” Sinclair Oil’s classic Dino returned after a 40-year absence.
This year, musical performers included Trey Songz, Jordin Sparks, Train, Questlove, Prince Royce and Mariah Carey. The parade was capped off by the arrival of Santa in his sleigh.
