Looking for a long lost friend? A future paramour? Colleague you haven’t seen in weeks? If you’re a member of the Manhattan social set, chances are you will find them at the Museum of the City of New York’s annual New York After Dark party, which draws the the most loyal of crowds. This year’s affair, held Wednesday night at the Four Seasons’ Pool Room and sponsored by Reed Krakoff, was no exception.

“It’s back to school,” said Nina Griscom, upon entering the room, packed with Muffie Potter Aston, Jennifer Creel, Valesca Guerrand-Hermes, Allison Rockefeller, Shafi Roepers and Gigi Mortimer.
One of the chairs, Celerie Kemble, was so dedicated to her duties she showed up less than a week after giving birth.
“I’m just so happy to not be pregnant,” she said.
As guests devoured heartier hors d’oeuvres (read: mini burgers, tuna tartare and fried shrimp) in place of dinner, Krakoff, joined by wife Delphine, took in the scene of the first event he’s sponsored under his new line.
“I’ve been in New York for 25 years and I’m close with the people on this committee and I love what they’re doing,” he explained (the evening exceeded its fundraising goals by $75,000). “I wanted to do my small part.
And Coach started in New York forty years ago, so it made sense.”
The one downside to going to an event whose attendance list gives new meaning to friends and family is the presence of people you’d rather not see. “I’m going to mingle and try to avoid my ex-husband,” said one lady, as she gracefully maneuvered the room.
