The Cinema Society and Allure editor in chief Linda Wells hosted a screening of the upcoming summer tearjerker “People Like Us” at Manhattan’s Chelsea Cinemas on Monday night. At the after party — held on the open-air rooftop of the Hotel Americano — one of the stars admitted to skipping out on the screening.
“It’s a really hard movie to watch,” said Elizabeth Banks, who had opted out of the theater after walking the carpet. “I’ve seen it twice and can’t bear to see it again.”
Banks, who sparkled in a gilded Elie Saab halter dress and Cartier jewels, said it was the raw performances in the film that make it especially moving.
“Maybe in 10 years I’ll catch it on cable,” the actress said.
The soiree also drew Chris Pine and director Alex Kurtzman, as well as Kenneth Branagh, Zachary Quinto, Gina Gershon, Zosia Mamet, Olivia Thirlby, Russell Simmons and Tony Danza. Despite some earlier thunderstorms, guests at the rooftop revel were able to take in the hotel’s up-close view of the Midtown skyline along with a cocktail or two (courtesy of drinks sponsor Grey Goose Cherry Noir).
Banks chatted a bit about her recent projects, including her upcoming comedy, “Pitch Perfect,” a movie she both produced and starred in — along with Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson.
“It’s the next ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High,’” said Banks, who added she hopes to continue producing. “It’s a young, fresh, funny cast.”
The seemingly perpetually in-demand actress — who has significant roles in no less than five films this year — also revealed her beauty secret: a daily moisturizer with SPF from Mario Badescu.
“I’m a huge sunscreen fan,” she noted.
