Women in Need got the ball rolling on planning its upcoming 25th anniversary gala by getting supporters out to a party Thursday at the East Side home of Susan York.
The goal for the event, set for April 9 at the Pierre Hotel, is $2 million, according to organizers.

Among the crowd were several emerging designers and those in new ventures, like Charles Nolan, who just received Fashion Group International’s “rising star award” and Vena Cava designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, who are drawing inspiration from the maharajahs of India for their fall collection. Stan Tucker, formerly of Burberry and Saks Fifth Avenue, said he was “semiretired,” having just formed a design consultancy, while Mark Badgley and James Mischka stopped by on their way to the Winter Antiques Show Young Collectors’ Night event, which they were hosting.
WIN board member Kayce Jennings also attracted the limelight, since her production company — The Documentary Group — was just nominated for an Academy Award for “Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience.”
Also spotted in the crowd were Bonnie Stone, WIN’s president and chief executive; designers James Aguiar, Liz Lange and Michele Ateyeh; Charla Lawhon of In Style, honoree for the dinner; John Truex of Lambertson Truex, Beth Ostrosky (Howard Stern’s fiancée), and Suzanne Johnson from Saks.
WIN aims to assist homeless and disadvantaged women and children find housing and employment and provide support in cases of domestic violence and substance abuse. Through WIN, more than 2,500 women and children are provided shelter each night in the five New York boroughs.
