On Friday night the worlds of fashion and fine art converged at Phillips de Pury auction house on Park Avenue.
The occasion was a Richard Hambleton retrospective co-curated by Vladimir Roitfeld, son of Carine, and sponsored by Giorgio Armani.
Art critic Anthony Haden-Guest mulled over the work and ventured that a heroin habit had kept the artist out of the spotlight since his early success in the booming art market of the 1980s, when he was associated with artists Haring and Basquiat, another casualty of the drug.
Lauren Hutton was glowing with pride, seeing the paintings of her longtime friend, whom she has known before and after “heroin chic.”
Hutton was of course wearing Armani, whose clothes she helped make famous in the film “American Gigolo.”
The following day, Alexander Wang threw his spectacle on Pier 94, along the West Side Highway.
Large mirrors dissected the center of the space, creating optics that were quite disconcerting.
Mirror images of the rich and famous were also on display, with Zoe Kravitz and 17-year-old Peter Brant II both sitting in the front row.
Holding an elongated antique gold cigarette holder, Brant double-cheek kissed Linda Evangelista as she sauntered past the paps.
Infamous for kissing his supermodel mom, Stephanie Seymour, on the beaches of St. Barth’s, Brant excitedly asked Evangelista if she would be attending his up-and-coming birthday party.
Farther down the front row, Courtney Love got up to take a cell-phone break a few minutes before the show’s start.
Although unclear who was on the other end, it was probably not her estranged daughter Frances Bean.
