Saturday of New York Fashion Week began with a streaker at Prabal Gurung and ended with black cars bumper to bumper in an epic traffic jam in the middle of nowhere in Brooklyn after Alexander Wang.

All the drama threatened to overshadow Prabal Gurung’s morning showing, but at his party late Saturday in the West Village the designer had already turned the streaker into a party gag. Up & Down, the new club, was brimming with people in matching plastic crowns, a nod to Vitalii Sediuk, the man who crashed Gurung’s runway show earlier.

“I called all of my friends and I asked them to buy crowns. We bought 150” at Party City, Gurung said. “Of course you have to make fun of it. You can’t take it seriously.”

There didn’t seem to be any party crashers in the crowd around him, which included Atlanta de Cadenet, Ireland Baldwin and Gigi Hadid, the recent cover face of Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book. At its halfway mark, fashion week was taking its toll on newbie Hadid, who had mixed emotions about the marathon. “Energywise, I feel really good,” she said, but added, “I’m a little sick from lack of rest.”

Gurung pointed to the felt hat on his head that had been worn earlier by the runway crasher. “This is the original,” he said as he performed a royal wave. “Let me have the original, let them all enjoy.” It helped that he was pleased with the collection’s reception.

Even at midnight the crowd’s energy and interest showed no signs of flagging. How long did Gurung plan to stay out? “Who knows,” he said.
