It was the night before a major awards show, but there was no competitive elbow swinging on the dance floor at Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Screen Actors Guild Awards soiree held on Friday night at West Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont.
It all started with Lupita Nyong’o shimmying along to an Eighties mix that included Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Soon Michelle Dockery joined the “12 Years a Slave” star and the two kicked up their heels to Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love.” The tunes then took a funkier turn — and Damian Lewis didn’t miss a beat. Drink in hand, he grooved to The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” Not to be outdone, James Marsden showed off his smoothest moves. During Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” the actor grabbed his date’s floppy black hat and wore it MJ style, complete with some fancy footwork.
The impromptu dance party — sponsored by Essie, TNT and TBS — carried on well past the party’s official 11 p.m. end.

Though not everyone was prepared for an all-nighter. How late would Kerry Washington stay out? “Not late, but it is girls’ night out,” said the pregnant actress, who kept close to her “Scandal” costars Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes and Bellamy Young while taking it easy from the sidelines. She said dressing her new baby bump has been “different and fun,” and that she selected her Tory Burch ensemble because, simply put, “it fit.”
Jane Krakowski also made it an early night — in the name of fashion. “I haven’t made my final [dress] decision yet. It’s between two dresses, and they’re very, very different. So we’ll see what the feeling is in the morning,” she said of her SAG gown contenders. “It’s like naming your son. You’ve got to see them before you pick that name out.”
